For same time past the common topic of conversation among the colored persuasión of this city, was the masquerade ball announced to come off on Friday evening, the 25th inst., at the old armory building on Ann street, which was, in ail respecta to be first-class, and to which all colored. people from this city and vicinity, were invited. Bet ween the hours of eight and nine on the evening mentioned, a large number of both sexes had assembled at the place, which was soon to be the scène oí glowing pleasure. When all was ready the floor manager informed those present that, as the band had arrived, " trouble would begin,'' and from this time until twelve o'clock on went the dance. At twelve o'clock it was announced that a committee of three had been appointed, consisfcing of Messrs. J. V. N. Oregory, Hermon Hutzel, and Ed. Boudinot, upon whom rested the honor of awarding prizes to the best fancy dressed dancer and to the one wearing the most comic costume. Mrs. Geo. Moss Miss Sweny and "Bob" Blakemore each received a prize. Nealy two hundred spectators were present, and everything passed off pleasantly, nothing occuring to mar the festivitios of the evening.
