Couueil met Monday evening in regular session. Absent- Aid. Wood, Schmid, Deubel and Portar. Aid. Ehodes from Finauoe Committee reported bilis on the various funds, in the following amounts, and recommended their allowance : Second ward fuud, - - - f 1 50 Thirdwardiund, - - - 17 65 General fund, - Bills from Board of Health for 40 for sm:iU pox supplies presented, and on xnotion referred back. Also bill from members of Board of Health for services, presented and on motion laid on table till next regular meeting. Communication from Marshal Loveland askng confirmation of Chester Cooper as special policeman at depot. Conflrmed. Council proceeded to consider the propoaed amendments to Charter, which had already been introduced into the Legislature. Section 1, proposing to amend section 2 80 as to provide for raiaing a sum not to exceed $10,000 annually for general purposes, instead of $6,000, and a sum not to exceed $7,000 for water supply, was read ; aud on motion of Aid. Ehodes, the section was strickeu out. Section 2 was read, proposing to amend sectiou 3, providing the marnier in which greater amounts than prescribed are to be raised ; and on motion of Aid. Mclutyre, the section waa stricken out. Section 3 was read, proposing to amend section 7, so as to exempt the agrioultural portions of the city, and the parts not beneflted by the system of lighting and watching, froni the expense of the same ; also to raise money by specific tax on all insurance companies doing business in this city, for the purpose of defraying the expense of supplying the city ivith water for ñre purposes ; and on motion Of !Vld Ehodes, the section was stricken out. Section 4 was read, proposing to amend secbion 11, ao as to make all taxes paid before the first day of Jauuary iu each year, exerapt from any collection fee, and the addition of two per cent. to all taxes paid after January lst ; and on motion of Aid. Seabolt, the sectiou was stricken out. Section 5 was read, proposing to amend section 12, pioviding for makiiig the office of Treasurer a salaried office, at f600 per year, and that all fees received by him for collecting taxes, etc, shaü be paid to the city ; and also providing that Aldermen shall each receive $1 tor every meeting of the Council attended, and $2 per day for servises as chairmen of finance street, and sidewalk committees ; and on motion of Aid. Seabotf, the section was stricken out. On motion of Aid. Rhodes, the recorder was directed to withdraw the bill uow before the Legislature, containing the above amendments. Aid. Seabolt moved that permission be granted to the University authorities to uso the streets for the purpose of laying pipes, for supplying the University with water, and that the City Attorney be directed to prepare the uecessary ordiuance. Carried. On motion of Aid. Mclntyre, the Council adjourned till next Monday evening, for the purpose of haviug the proceedings of the last niue months read.
