A paiuful story from Hoincr, OourÜand couuty, N. Y., is thus briefly told by the Ithaca Journal: " A little girl íiamed Clark, aged 4 years, was visiting IViday afternoon vith her párente at the house oí a Mi'. Joselyu, a slioit distanoe east of the village. A dnughtor of the lnttor invited hor little visitor to go out to the coop and seo her chickens. They vent togethov, and as they were passing throngh the wood-house they were joined by a lai-ge dog belonging to Mr. Joselyu. Aniving at tho hen-houae, tlie daughter of Mr. Joselyn opeued tlie door and passed in. Tho little dark girl, : ing to íoilow, waa set upon by the dog, j which bo frightened the Joselya girl that i sho closed the door of the hen-house. ! The 3creims of tho girl at length reached ! the ears of the inmates of tho houso, who carne ruiming to her assisbuice. Wlien they reached the spot, the dog had his teeth fastened in the child's right arm, and was shaking her furiously. Sh was reseued, bnt was liorribly mnngled. One ear was bitten off, the right cheek bitten : out, and a poartion of tho scalp tom off. Beflides these wounds, botll arms were fcerribly mutilated. Everything wua dórie to relieve the exeruciating sufferiags of i the unfortunate ohild during the night, ■ and this morning death meroifnlly put ui end to them."
