A California Goose

The last : story whieh cornos is of a wild goose of the past and the present. One Mr. Abo Groen, a mighty fiunter, went forth to lumt lately on Uache croek, near Yolo, Cal., and saw in the courso of liis ramblas a wild goose sitting at the edg-e of the water. Mr. Abe Green prept np as I close to tho bird as he thought prudent, and the thunder of bis overloadod shot1 gun reverberated up and down thecreek, ! biit the wild goose didn't budge. Then ! Mr. Abe Green went up to fathom the mystery, and diseoverrd a wonderful ! tliing. The goose he shot at waa a petrified goose, and the load from his gun liad only clipped itt' a tiny fraetion of its wing. He lifted the goose from the ground, and as he did so a picee of its breast dropped out, disclosing a hollow inside, f rom wliich pure, olear water I commenced running. The feathers of the goose, though of stone, were natiu'al in appearanoe, and the general look of the bird was altogoi h r 1 i 1'. - likc.
