- The seüsou has opened with pleuty of work for mechauics, and promises to be the most active oue for building that has occurred in manj' years. Iinprovements are ueing made in all parts of the city. A large nuraber of new buildings are already in progress of construction, and maay more in contemplation. A seiircity of mechanica exists and considerable difliculty is experienced in obtaining a suillcient numbei for present wants, although mauy are arriving from other localities. The following is a partial list of the work that is now in progress or will be within a few days : W. D. Smith, new brick hotel on State street, déSigued for a student's boarding house. Tlie size of the new building will be 26x80 leet, and will connect with other buildings in the rear, the combined depth of which will be about eight rods. W. D Harriman, brick house corner Washtenaw Avenue and Cemetery streets, to cost a bout (3,500. Anton Eisele, brick store on Detroit street, in front of marble shop. Mrs. ïenney, frame house on South University Avenue, about 12,000. Mrs. Coe, frame house on south side of Univeisity Squaie, about Y2,000. Jas. M. Cook, frame house near fair grounds, about $2,000. ■ Mrs. A Whitehead, frame house on State street, about $2,500. Mrs. Whiting, frame house on South Ypsilauti road, near residence of C. Eberbach, about 1800. Joe T. Jacobs, fine brick house, corner of Fourth and William treets, about $0,000. l'rof. M. C. Tyler, a line residence at the head ot North street, in the Fourth ward. Improveinents to the interior ot the Catholic Church, iucludiug new seats, frescoing, etc to cost about $3,000. The work of completing the new Congregational Church is to be puslied during the coming summer. A. Mclteynolds, addition and improvement o his resideuce on State street, about $00. Dr. S. H. Douglas, addition and improvement to his residenci on Hurou street, about 800. Samuel Day, additiou and improvement to is residence on West Hurou atreet, about 600. Jacob Haas, addition and improvement to lis residence in Secoud ward, about $700. l'rof. C. L. Ford, improvemeut to his resience on Wahtenaw Aveuve, about $400. H. O. Waldron, improvume to his residence n Eli.abeth atreet, $500.
