At tlio Pere la Chaise cemetery, ncar Paris, there stands in a conspicuoua position a splendid monument to Pierre Caboeharü, groeer, whieh clöses thus : ' ' His inconsolable widow dedicatës tliis j momimcnt to his meniory, and continúes j the same business at the okl stand, 1C1 : Iluc MoufFetard. " A Parisian paper relatos that a short time ago a gentlemen who had noticed the above inscription was led by cuiïosity to eall at the address indieated. Having expressed his desire to see the widow Cabocliard, he was irumedintely ushered into tho presence of a fashionably-droKHed and full-bcarded man, Avho aüked what was the object of his visit. "I carne to sec the widow Oabochard, sir. " Well, sir, hero sho is." "I beg pardon, but I wiwh to sec tho lady in person." " Sir, I am the widow Cabochard. " "I don't exactly understand yon, I allude to tlie relict of the late Pierre Cabochard, whose monument I saw yesterday at Pere la Chaise." " I see, I see," was the smiling rejoinder. " Allow me to inform you that Pierre Cabochard is a myth, and therefore never had a wife. The tomb you have admired cost me a good deal of money, quite a small fortuno indeed, and, although no one is buried there, it proves a first-rato advertisement, and I have no cause to regret the expense.
