A correspondent of tho and Uerald, of Panama, writiug from Guayiquil on tho lOth inst., gives the followng story of the aasassinntion of tho President of Ecuador : " The whole city was throwu iuto groat excitement by tho nowa of the assassination of Garcia Moreno, in hi.s palace at Quito, by an offloor, Capt. Bavo, whoja he had displaced, aided by two young men of Quito callc.d Cornejo, ihwo flrstKtruck the President over the head with a machite, and was instantjy run hrough by the eejjtry, who flred his piece at tlie same time, killiug the assassin iromediiitcly. ïhe two young men, after Bavo liiul Btruok tho President, flred on the latter with thcir revolvers. The President feil on his face, mortally wormdcd, and has sinoc died. The two young men escaped. The people cannot realize the l'r.-sidi'iil's deat-h, and :ire afraid t attempt anything. Great alarm has seized ou all foreigners, and strong reasons exist for believing there will be a massaere of foreign priests."
