One of the oíd industries, tne nature and extent of wÜioh are comparatively little known, is tho manufacture of Sandpaper. the amount oí wliich article aiiimally produced in tlie United States is estimated at not less thau 200,000 reame, includiugthe various grades and qualitiea. Formerly it was made of ordmnry brown paper, glue and sand. At present, for the most part, the paper ia made of old rope, the best qnality of glue is uBed, and, instead of sand, piuverized quartz or ílint. By this means a superior fabrio ia produoed, of a coiiBtanÜy uniform giade, and at so low a prioe that the use of it has beöome creatly extended, large quantitiea being exported to Eürope, S.mtli America, the Pacific islands and eisenere.
