A Nevada papor relates the following: ' William Lysll, a rancher liviag near ïuffaker's in Washoe county, liad coniderable of a tussle with a wildcat Satirday morning. He was out lmntiug th a couple of dogs, when near the ower end of his ranche the dogs scared ip a cat. which, being pressed hard, ;urned and stood sullenly at bay. One dí the dogs, a shepherd, bounced into it it once, whick aetion the ' varmiut ' was waiting for, as she soon liad him dowi and was biting him savigely. The othei dog, attacking it frotn the rear, managet to put the cat on tho defeusive. At thi juncture the cat managed to disengage herself, and made a rush for Mr. Lyell who had been unable to get a shot in fo fear of killing his dogs. He received her with the butt end of lus gun, break ing it over her; butslie, nothing diuited evinced such a strong determination t force the battle that he was glad to leav the gun-barrels in her possession. Ra lying his dogs for anotlier onset, anc grasping the stock of his gun, his sol weapon, he boldly advanced to wher stood the cat with gleaming eyes, seem iugly emitting flashes of fire, her tail waving impatiently in the air, as if in deflanoe to liim. üuicK as a nasn iue felice eprang at our hero, who with iutrepid courage calmly awaited Üie coming event, and met her with a welldireoted blow from liis gnn-barrel, whicli he had managed to regain, lea-s-ing her dead at his feet. The cat on being takeu (o the ranche was fonndto weigh thirtytliree pounds, and measured three feet four inchea from tip to tip."
