The first of the oíd isaue of cards were sent to the Springfield postoffice May 12, 1873, and the last to Meriden, Conn., last Tuesday. Between these two dates, 255,478,000 cards have been issued, for which the government has paid the contractors $357,349.85, aud have coUected $2,554,780 f rom the people. There were 62,902 reqtusitions held for the old cards, and they were shipped in 82,424 pouches, packages and cases, all of which were registered, and for which receipts are on file at the agency. The entire shipmente of the old cards weighed 960 tons and 1.893 üounds. and would flll a freight train of ninety
