Tues day wasn't exactly a good (Jay for the Demooraoy, and in several States they were either unexpectedly "scooped," or defeated by larger majorities than were conceded to the Iiepublicans. Not to wasto any unnocessary words we report : New York.- The Democratie State ticket elected by the skin of the teeth, say by majorities of 8,000 to 10,000. Legislatura Republioan. Cause : Democratie split iu New York City, and support of the Kepublican ticket by the ring and canal thieves, who hate Tilden worse than they do the d - 1, and hold him responsible for their prosecution The small inajority for Bigelow and his associates weakens Tilden, and is really a viotory for corruptionists of every hue. Massachusetts.- Rice, Eepublican for Governor, beat Gaston about 5,000 but laoksseverel thousand of a inajority. Legislature largely Eepublican. Not unexpected. New Jersey. - A Kepublican Legislature. An unexpeoted Democratie defeat. PENNSYLVANIA. - Hartranft, Rep. , for Governor, has about dO.OOO inajority. Was elected before by over 35,000. MARYLAND. - Democratie, as usual. Virginia. - Increased Democratie. MississiPPI. - Republicans meet their Waterloo defeat. Pive Democrats elected to L'ongress, with a chance for the eixth. Legislature Democratie. Election peaoeable and orderly. Wisconsin. - Ludington, Rep., elected Governor by about 4,000 majority, with the whole ticket and a Legislature. Kansas. - Republican, and Minnesota ditto. Chicago. - Republican. " Nuff sed." I The Wayne County Board of Supervisors at tho recent session passed a resolution in favor of a división of the county, attaching to tho city of Detroit such territory as will naturally within a few years seek admission to the city, and incorporating it as tho county of Detroit. The country supervisors did not all relish the propositiou, and Chairman Warner, in his little farewell speech, expressed his regret. An atteinpt was made to divide Wayne County in 1859, bocause of the proposed passage of a law restoring to each ward of Detroit representation in the Board of Supervisors by both Aldermen, whioh having been taken away a few years before hcd left Detroit at the inerey of theoountry towns. Then Senator Warner (the chuirinan of the recent Board) favored the move, introduced the bill in fact, and proposed to name the new county Washington. The bill also proposed a división of Washtenaw County, but Senator Yost proposing to establish the county seat on the public square in tho fifth ward of Ypsilanti, the bill was reforred (in joke) to Messrs. Warner and Yost as a special coinmitteo, who reported it baok dividing Wayne alone, in which shape it unanimously passod the Senate but failed in the IIouso. Meantime the Supervisor bill was [ passed. Every newapaper reader will remeruber that for years the nmiui of John Morriasey has been paraded in Itepublican journals as the synonyin for everythiug vile, the great stumbling block in the way of good boyabecomingDemoorats or good oitizens voting the Democratie ticket. But as soou as John Morrissey was hoisted out of Tauimany Hall and rejeoted by the regular Dèmooraey of New York, the God and humanity Republicana of that city picked hiui up, acceptedhim as theircandidute, and Buccessfully aided the Deuiocratio bolters, the worat element of the party in hia district, in electing him to the Senate. The Republicana had nothing against John hiuiselï, but wore only ' agin " his Democracy. His Democratio jacket laid aaide he waa as puro as the average liepublioan. And this is how the Toledo JSast Side makea a lame attempt at wit : " We nomínate ' Uncle William 'for President in 1900, 'subject to the decisión of the Democratie National Convention,' of course." If the Kant 8iile will wait until 1900 it may know enough to entitle itself to membership in the " M. Y. O. L. Club."
