On each committee the Republican minority is fairly and justly represented not only by its most ut men, but on all important corumittees by a grearer number of' members than it has in the past been the practioe to assign to the minority. This is another departnre f'rom the " time-honored " rule of American partyism which causes greatgnashing of teeth among the venerable Silurians. May it be said that it indioates on the part of Mr. Speaker, a recognition of the faot that the principal men of the minority side are in accord with himsolf on the parainount political questions of the time, and are in reality moreoutspoken and unhesitating friends of the hard-money policy than the "leaders" on the majority side are 'i Does it imply fellow-feeling on his part with sincero hard-money men, regardless of the name by which they label themselves 'i Does it signify a higher and better view of political affairs, which would reverse the old Bourbon idea by putting sincere political 'purpo8es above the degrading and infamous assertion of a miserable spoilsseeking party expediency ? Upon the whole, there is much more in Mr. Spoaker's arrangement of the CDmmittees to be approvod than there is to be ceneured. With a few exceptions he has probably done the best that could have been done with the poor material at hand. He has given mortal offense to most of the corrupt old party humbugs by sending thein to the rear, for which all honest men will be thankful. He has astonished everybody by a departure from the " time-honored " rule of a degradiug party tradition, inimical to healthful progress aud in conflict with the spirit of the age. He has gained the good will of mon who, while noniinally his party opponent?, ave, on the single great political qaeation of tho tiinn, at one with with every true economint in politioul parpóse.- Chicago Tinu. CONOBSS6 is to convene again on WcdueHday ïiext, and then will commence firing all along the line. Political figurera on both sides aro making ready to put in their " best licks."
