After presenting bis case he was told to cali upon another gentleman, with the promise that the manufacturer would tben do aa well as he could. The clersryrann did so, secured a check for $l,0()0, and returned to the office of tbe manufacturer, who considered the matter for somt; time and then said : "I can't give you $1,000, but I tell you whiitl will do. I will give you a check for $1,800 for the check you have." The proposal was aucepted, the new check proved worthlesa and the enterprise suffered the loss.
