Fierce Wolves In France

Tbe severe weather seems to have ingpired the wild beasts in tbo forests of France with great audacity. Raceittly, Michel Chousseric, a farmer at Yeyssiere (Dordogne) was mowing some hay just outside tbe village, when he nuticed a large wolf regardiug bis dog, which was laying by hia side. After having made menacing gestures without any effect, he struck tbe animal with the back of bis soythe, and, instead of leaving, it attacked hiin forociously. A violent struggle ensueil, dnriug whicli the man was suvorley bitten on the eyes, the cheek, the arm and leg. Fortunately, he at last managed to inflict a serious wound on his asRailant, which made off, bleeding. The man succeeded in dragging himself home, and having related what had occurred, bis son and some more young men, armed with guus and pitehforks, set out in search of the brute. They soon found it and one of tbem fired and hit it, when it sprang at him and would probably have grievously injured him if the others had not fortunately attncked it vigorously and dispatchcd it with their pitchforks. Upon exiiminntion it turned out to be of unusuallyjlarge size andstrengtb, and eleven years i ld. The wounds reouived by the farmer are sufficient to cause serious anxiety to his family.
