The astronomers have been noting that tho sun of late has been roiuarkübly tree f rom spots, and uring the period thero has been vury warm and spring-like weather. About two w'eeks ago, however, the sun was found quite spottod again, Mid at the sume time th tlit rinurncter bogan to rail. This was the oaso not only in this cc untry, but in Europe, and the Paris correspondent of tho S'eie Yirrk Times writos that the weather euddenly changed there to the coldest, rawost aud most disagreeablo weather of the eason. This fact has again givcn lito to the theoi'y that there is a relation betwe m the sun s]jots and the teuiperatnru upon this planet. Mr. Lookyer, the Bnglish astronouior, reported about tho first of January that ho found the suu perfuctly free froni spots, and inforrod tbat it rnight indícate a period of vury mild weather. The very same day Fathor Secci made tho same obsorvation in Homo. Neither astrouomer asserted that there would be mild weather on earth becausn the sun was upotlosH, but both iuforred that this uiight bo the case, and such has befn the case in fact. The ditticulty about tho theory is to afford an explanation how tlie greater heat of the sun, presumably indicated by the absence of the spotH, is ao quickly tranamitted to the atinosphere of the earth.
