After presenting his case he was told to cali upon another gentleman, with the promise that the manufacturer would then do as well as he could. The clergyman did so, secured a check for $1,000, and returned to the office of the manufacturer, who considered the matter for some time and then said : "I can't give you $1,000, butltell you whatl will do. I will give yon a check for $1,800 for the check you nave. " The proposal was accepted, the new check proved worthless and the euterprise suffered the loss.
