i hose wishing oarly cucuinbere, and haring good accomodations for growing tliem, should hare a few seeds atarted. Whure a house is used for the purpose, it is best to plant the seeds whure they are to grow, but when they are to be grown in hot-beds, start in pota, or better atill, get a few pieces of soda about six or eight indios square, and plant in each a few seeds ; then place the soda close together in a box, and cover over with about an inch of sifted soil ; give a good watering; then put in to som e placo where they can get a good brisk heat. Most seeds after they make thcir appearance above the soil, ehould have more air. Any started by ineane of boards Iaying on the surfaoe should be gradually har denedjto the light. If any appearance of damp be among them, prick out into other boxes as soon as posaible, or as soon as they can be handled, in soil similar to that in whioh the seeds were started. I like always to transplant from the seed-box int other boxea and not into pota, as the; always do so muoh better - even suc kind as Chinese prĂmulas, cinerarias an( calceolarias, which I put into pots ai'te they are well rooted in the nursing box Unless to guard against damp, I seldora transplant seedlings until they show their charactoristio leaves. Espeeiall is this the case with plants requirec for bedding purposes. Then put them at a suitable dis tunco apart to allow their development, until auch tim as they are plantad out doors. Whe newly transplanted.small plants requir to be kept close for a day or two, tunti they intike a few fresh
