Mr. Disraeli is set down iu the "Parliamentary Cornpanion " as searcely yet 70. But he has not yet put off the appearanee and thewaysof yonth. He dresses liko a yoimg man; he tries to walklike a young man; at a distanee and when he is erc-ct and not in niotion, lie still looks almost like a sort of young man. But the face, with its fallen cheeks and Hps, its deep, shaky wrinkleH, its awful hollows, its frequent ponvulsiye movements, the thin wisps of hair striving to keep their color and to eover the bald places; the yellow, muddy, ghastly hue spreading from forehead to chin, the eyes that aro occasionally avoused under the impulse of great excitement to aii unnatural glitter- all this seems to snggest one of the most fearful forms in which vindictive oíd age punishes and humbles thoso who have shown themselves too obstinate in resistí ng her approaeh. It is curiousto observe the little pause which Mr. Disraeli makes at the bar of the House - or at least the place where the bar ought to be - before he ventures on the task cf walking up the floor to his sent on his ministerial beneh. Evidently he still loves to show an appearance of jaunty aud yonthful vigor as he passes up the floor under everyeye. So he stops for a moment at the bar and steadies himself as you sometimes see a man who has drank too much endeavor to steady himself betore crossing a street. He surveys the distance, makes perhaps n little false start or two, and then goes at it. The attempt i üsually vory succissful; a little too well done perhape for réality, He accomplishes : tlw journey in oue stroke, if í may use such an expression, without stopping or taking breath or foltering, but with a sort of determination and Helf-mastery wuich shows how much it costa to be young and jaunty still. - Galaxii.
