Respectkd FaiENus :To daj 's paper doses the fifih volume of the Signal of tiberiv tfs also my connection with the same as onc ufitseditors. All who are acquainted with the history of tho Signal are aware that it was comraenced by the Executive Committee of tho Michigan State Anii-Slavery Sociely. F rom the commencement Mr. Fosicr and mystlf assumed the entire respon - sibilítica of tho paper both pecuniary and editorial. Up to ihis hour, (with the cxcepiion of a few donations froni ;he friends of ihc cnuso) tho paper has beun sustained by jicrsona! application and sacrifice on e part of myself and Mr. Foster. In nfancy we walched over and nourished t vilh slcepless vigiiance - in muiurer age ve have administered tho ncedful cordial, nd thus preventcd a prematuro death. -'ecuniary sickncss was the ifireful clísense viih which t was soruly aflilicted when h irüng into being, nntl nolhing but occaonal signs of improving healih, and an rdent desire for tho prosperity and uliiTiate iriumph of tho time honorcd principes it advocates, could have iuduced us o makc the 6acrifice in time and money hichwe have to sustain it. It is now in a conditior; in which it can )econtinued, if ila friendswill rally to its upport. Thore is but about onc-third of the Liberty men of tliia Stato who take he Signal. This ouglit not so to be. If every man who is derotcd to the cause of Liberty in this State - and is abletodo it, would subscribe for the Signal, and.send n the pay in advance, it would place il in a hcalthy condition, and on a basis that would deiy opposition, as well as lightcn the buiden nnd cheer tho heart of its editor and publishers. Let libcrty men ihitik of this. As I am now to take my leave of the pnper, I fcèl myself called upon asa matter of justice to Mr. Foster to state, that from iho commencement, the editorial dipartment has been almo.st entirely conducted by him. Tho numcrous article3 which havo been praised by our friends, in consequencc of their personal aoquaintance wilh me. have been read as my productions. The annihemaa which have been poured upon me by the Whig and Domocratic presa in times of political excítement. I have leen proudtobcar, though the unanswerable facts and arguments that occasioncd these torrents oí abuse upon the 4 Kev. calumniator," the " pions hypocrite," tho "blaek-hearted tcoundrel in the gaib of a Minisier," &c. &c, were the productions of my worlhy friend Foster. Though I have not been tho aullior of these productions, 1 Iiave ever been proud to father thom, and would not now make a single remark with reference to them, but for the purposc of placing the credit liere it belongs. But my connection with the Signal now doses. My humble name, wliich has been the subject uf such frequent remark for the last few yoars, is now withdrawn from the pubüc, and I am lefl to be alike unnotif.ed by friends and foes ; and my only anxieiy s.that the Signal of Liberty may - which I have no doubt it will - cont'nue tho same bold and fearless advocate of all that is right and just - and the undaunted reprover of error and crimj wherever it exists. And now to all our friends, as editor, I say adieu. - May the blessings of heaven atlend you and the cauae of down-trodden Inimanily, and the faithful Signal continue u welcome visilor at your dwellings, until " Liberty shnll be proclaimed thoughout all the land to all the inhabitants thereof."
