A recent letter from Cheyenne saya : " Every day during the last week, about 100 persons have left there for theHills; and, judging from the present appearance, the daily number next week will be about doublé. Great misapprehenoion prevails as to the saethod of transportation from here. Some fancy that twenty-dollar fare means a regular ride from here. Now, the methods of going from here to the Huls are : First, one can have his baggagc; conveyed to Custer City at $7 per 100 pounds, and has the privilege of walking af ter tho wagon; and, of the many ways of conveyance, this seems to be the most satisfactory. A perfect uncierstanding prevails between the partios, and no bickerings arise on the road, as there do among some of the others who make contracta to ride part of the way, and to have 100 pounds of baggage transported for $15 to 22. When teams and men get tired on the road, it is to bo inferred what troubles can arisc as to when the proper time to ridc or walk comes. Some I pie buy teams and outfit themselves ; j others luidertake tho journey on horseback ; and some make a bold dash for the gold world on foot. with their baggage on thoir backs. "The exeitemont here sometimes is uwful. It is quite a study to note the expression of countenanco with which every item of intolligence from the Hills is received. It is beginning to be considered levity to talk of Black Hills. The man of business always says Custer City or Hill City, but Black Hills."'
