The O1I Urown House. The trembling shadows of green leaves Upon the old roof lay With uoiseiess fluttenngs throughout Tho long, long nummer day. The warm, glad sunsliine softly crept Down throufjh their cooling shade, And ehming arrows, tipped witu gold, Amoug the ehadpws laid, And gently waved the elm tree o'er, And light the wind carae down TTpon the old house nestling there - The doar old house of brown. The woodbino clambered tenderly Above tne lowly door, Traincd by soft hands, whoee gentle touch Will guide the vinos no more ; A honeysuclrle, on whosc bloom, 'Mid fragrance, siept the dew, And humming birds light hovered roxind Where roses thickly grew ; Deneath the low green mossy eaves The ewallow't? darting wings "Went in and out, with twinklings bright, Through many balmy spríngs. Bcsirle the narrow grassy walL Tho flowers, with heartií of gold, "Were noddlng, while gay peoniea Theír crimson leaves unrolled ; And hollyhocks, red, pinit and white, Along the borders f?rew, While viólete 'mid bright green grasa TJpturued their eyes of bine ; But fetill the graceful elm tree was The glory and the crovn Of the old house beneath the ehade - ■ That dear old house of brown.
