A Spriiigfield (Mass.) dispatch says the heaviest mili failure that Western Massachusetts has yet seen is that of Harvoy, Arnold & Co., of the North Adams print-works, shutting np their milis, that of Gallup, Houghton & Smith, and E. H. Arnold & Oo., at Korth Adams ; the Williamstown Manufacturing Company at Williamstown, the North Pownal Manufacturing Company at Pownal, Vt., and the Arnoldsville mili at South Adams, a total of six milis, with aggregate liabilities probably over $1,000,000, and assets, mostly unsalable property, amounting to $1,500,000. Gmkdiji Cakes. - A perfect success will be found by following these directa ons: To one quart of milk add the yelk of an egg, a pinch of salt, and a tablespoonful and a half of baking-powder. Stir in it flour enough to miike a batter. Then add the beaten white of the egg, stirring it a yery little - just enough to mix the egg in the butter.
