A disgraceful and outrageous ocourrence took place at Fort Edwnrd oía the night of the lltli inst., between tho liours of 12 and 1 o'clook. A number of the studente, as supposed, belonging to the Instituto, secured the oíd fieldpicco which has dcno duty in that town for the past 100 years on all Fourth of July celebrations, and, placing itin front of the Instituto building, loaded it up to the muzzlo with powder and sod. A rope was then attached to tho bellon the Instituto building, and, all being ready, tho gun wns touched off and the boll violently nuig. ïo describe the sensation wñich was produced and tho fear expressed by the neighboring citizens, who were a,wakened trom a sound sleep, would be impossible. Suffice it to say that simultaneously with thedeafening report mado by tho discharge of the cannon, an explosión occurred, tho gun flying iuto a thotisand picces, and the windowlights contained in tho front portion of tho Instituto and in tho neighboring dwelling-houaes disappearing as if by magie.
