Our community was sliocked, last evening, at the intelligence of the killing of Maj. A. 3. Harrington, Deputy United States Marshal, of this city, at Maysville, yesterday afternoon. Maj. Harrington, on Friday last, received instruetions from the clerk of the United States court at liouisville, directing him to seize the towboat Kate Dickspn, on account of some suit brought against her in that city, process in pursuanco of which she was attempting to evade. When these instructions were received the boat was lying at the Cincinnati wharf, and outside the jurisdiction of the Kentucky Federal court. She reinained there until about daylight yesterday morning, Maj. Harrington in the meanwhille keeping close watch on her movements, when she departed up the river. Maj. Harrington, who had chartered the steamer Champion No. 8 for the purpose, immediately started in pursuit, with Michael Fitzpatrick and one or two others of this city, whose names we are unable to ascertam, as a posse to aid, if necessary, the enforoement of the process. It would appear that the towboat was overtaken at Maysville. The Champion went up alongside the Kate Dickson, while the latter was tying up at a wharf. Maj. Harrington, on the Champion, was brought face to face with Taylor's son, on the Dickson. Young Taylor asked, "Who are you; what do you want, anyway ?" Harrington answered, "I am a United States Marshal, from Covington. My name is Harrington. I have come up to take this boat, and arrest Capt. Taylor. Where is tñeCaptain ?" Young Taylor made some reply, bu at that instant Harrington caught sigh of Capt. Taylor, who was at nis stateroom window looking down at him, and in the act of aiming at him a shot-gun - double-barrel, some reports say. Without a word Taylor fired at Harrington a load of buck-shot, which penetrated his left side, some of them entering his heart. Harrington feil back into the arms of one of his men , and died almost instantly. Taylor immediately appeared at the guards with a revolver.
