The original cliart was drawn by Dr. Schmidt, Director of the Astronoinioal Obscrvatory ut Athcns, aud is the result of thirty years' labor. Thirty astronornical observations were in some, instances reqnired to complete a small fraction of the chart. The Prussian Government purchased the drawiug for $10,000. , A California man graf ted a slip of dark-red rosebush on an oak, and the result is a black rose. Brown roses were got frora a graft on a locust.
