McDermott, Esq-, Jersey City : Deau Sik - I am one ot' the class now denominated Indep.;ndents, osking 110 favors aad voting tor the bout raeu with out regard to party lines. I propose to ïütaiii uiy poaition. But as to the ohoice offered to me between Mr. Tilden and Mr. Hayes, tbough having no prepossessions agaiust either, I do not hesitate to say that tho foriner is far tho most fitted to meet the emergency in our politics, in icy opinión, and I intend to vote for him. Very truly yours, Charles Fhancis Adams. GEN. SIOEL " FIG1ITS MIT TILDEN." To the Editor of tlie Sun : Sik - Having rooeived of late sevorul invitations to addreHS political meetings, it seems to me iny duty to doolare, for the purpose of avoiding all niisunderstanditig, that the principie and polioy laid down in the Democratie platfoim, and the letters of aooaptanco of Tilden and Hendricks, are in accordance with the views which on many occasions I have expressed and defended, privately and publicly. I should be faithloss to myseli by not upholding and defending thein now, in the hour of trial, and therefore nhall give my support in this eleotion to the Prosidantial ticket adopted by the Democratie Conven tion. In taking thig step, I desire, however, to add thdt I shall not renounce independent aotion in political mattors relativo to our own State and city, wlionever questious of uational poliuy of paramnunt importance are not involved. By publishing thiscard you will oblige Yours, very respectfully, F. Skjel. New York, Aug. 8, 1876. riGHTINO JOE HOOKËK TO TUK l'UONT. My Dear Governor : I oanuot refrain froui oft'uring you my sincere congratulations, on your nomination to the exalted oftïoo of tho Presideucy of thu Uuited States. As a quiet observer of the political events of tho inition, I know of uo one in uiy day th.it has af forded me so muck satisfaotion, p.nd biucerely hope and beliove th;tt the wisdom shown by tho seleotion at St. Louíb will be fully ratifled by tho great mans of our poople in November ncxt. Wo require reform in politica, religión, and moráis, and I am convinoed that we will recoive them gonorously at your hands. The whole Governrmmt of tho nation has boen corrupt, desperatel; corrupt, and tho honor and glory of applying the antidote, I am convinced will belong to you. If the fact of you nomination does not enhanco tho ma terial values of the nation, I am sur your eleotion will do it. Already seem to breathe a new atmosphere, as i the oaBO with every well-wisher of hi country. Sincerely yours, Joseph Hooker, Major-General.
