We therofore coinmend to them the following address made by Gen. Dix at the date of Gov. Tilden's inauguration, &W lotï Times ot January 2, 1875 : Mr. Tilden- The people of the State have calltid you to proside over tho administnition of their government by a mujority which manifeste the highest coufidence in your ability, iutegrity, and firmuess. I need not say to you, who havo had so long and familiar acquaintaace with public affairs, that in a State of suoh magnitude as oura, with interests 6O vast and diversifiod, there is a constant demand on the Chief Magistrate for the essential attiibutes of statesinanship. It is gratifying to know that the amendments to the Constitution, approved and ratified by the people at the late general elootion, by limiting the powers of the Legislature in regard to local and special lawa, will in soine degree lighten the buiden of your arduous and responsible duties. While a material progresa has been made during the last two years in the correction of abuses much rouiains to be done, and the distinguished part you have liorne in the work of municipal reform in the City of New York, gives assurance thtt under your aunpices the great intereéts of the State will be vigilantly guarded. I tonde.r you my sincere wish that your labors in the caAise of good governroeut may be aa successful here as thoy have beon elsewhere, and thnt your administration may redound to your own honor and to the lasting prosperity of tho people of the State.
