The Second District Congressiona Conveution was held at the Cour House, in Adrián, on Thursday, Aug 31, at 11 o'clock A. M. The convention was called to orde by C. H. Dewey, of Lenaweo, and E. E Pond, of Washtenaw, was oalled to th chair. Mr. C. E. Bennett, of Lenawee was made temporary Secretary. In taking the chair, Mr. Pond saii that his selection as presiding officer indicated that no set speech was wanted Hs would say, however, that the work of the convention was an importan one, the choice of a candidato for Congre8s who being qualifiad for the duties to devolve upon him, who being honest, capable, faithïul, and a Democrat, oould couimand more votes than any other man. That wan the man the oonvention should nominate. On motion, the following Committee on Gredentials and Permanent Organization was appointed : Messrs. John Davis, of Monroe ; J. M. Judson, of Lenawee ; A. W. Parkhurst, of Hillsdale ; and Peter Tuite, of Washtenaw. A reoess was then taken to await the arrival of tne Monroe delegates. On reassembling the committee reported the several counties fully represented, also reported the temporary officers as permanent ofiicers, which report was adopted. Un motion tne convention toon a reoess until one o'clock v. m. k AFTERNOON 8ESSION. The convention met at the hour designated, and the chairman direoting a cali of the roll a full dalegation was found present. The convention ordered a viva voce vote by couuties for a caudidate for Congress. Before the roll was called, Mr. C. S. Gregory, in behalf of the Washtenaw delegation, presented the name of Hon. John J. liobison, speaking of him as a loyal Deuiocrat, and as a gentleman of ability and integrity. Me referred to the excellent run made by him two years ago, and promised him a large majority in his owa county if nominated. The nomination was supported by a Monroe delégate. , A Hillsdale delégate presented the name of Hon. John P. Cook, and referred in eulogistio tenas to his ability and services. The ballot resulted : For Mr. Eobison, 28 ; Cook, 10 ; Waldby, 2, and on motion of Mr. , of Hillsdale, the nomination of Mr. Bobison was made unanitnous. On motion, Messrs. (Jregory, of Washtenaw ; Luce, of Monroe ; and Sheriff, of Hillsdale, were appointed a committee to notify Mr. Robisön of his nomination and request his acceptance. The following resolutions, offered by W. D. Harriuian, of Washtenaw, were unanimously adopted : Resolved, That thii convention indorses, heartily and without reserve, the candidatos uuiued by tlie St. Louis convention, and the platform of principies upou which Samuel J. Tilden and Thoinus A. Hendricks were iiominated for President aud Vice-President, and commend such candidates to the suffrages ot all electors who favor a thorough reform of the mitional administration. Resolved, ïhat the candidates for State officers uoininated by the receut Democratie State Conyentióu are also worthy the united and earnest support oí the Democracy of the State. Resolved, That in the nommee of this conveution we recognize a man who will prove faithful to the duties imposed upon him, sho,uld he be elected, and who is entitled and worthy to receive the geueious support of the party and people. A Congressional Committee was frhen appointed, as follows: S. C. Stacy, Lana wee; A. W. Parkhurst, Hillsdale; T. F. Maloy, Monroe ; and W. D. Harriman, Waohtenaw. After which the conveutiou adjourned trine die.
