The People'8 Bauk, of Manchester, was en tered by burglars, Tuesday morning, at about 2 o'ciock, and about $900 in curreucy taken The bank is located on north side ot Exchange Place, in the busines center. The building ia of brink, contaiuing in the renr the Directora room, in front the bank office proper, betweon the two is the strong brick vault of the iustitution. Inside the vault, which is a good sized room of itseif, is located the large safe of the Detroit Safe Company Manufacture. The vault doors were of the saine 'inake, tvro in number. Your correspondent gives the following particulars of the burglary, t. e-, the following theory which is probably the correct one : The burglurs eutered by the rear door, by nieans of a "jitnmy" probably; thence they pnased through into the cashier's office and opened the street door, so as to give reudy access to the street. Aïter that was d ne, work was probably oommenced on the vault. By ineans of bars and picks the solid brick Wttll of the vault was cut through and éntrance gaiued to the vault. The tnsirie vault door was then opened by uncapping the luck, and tl. o door of the safe drilled and charged. When the charge was fired the ahell of the door was wreuched and blown off, and the inside door of the vault opened by the concussion. Also the heavy plate glass wiudows of the bank were shattered and the clock stopped at ten minutes of two. Shortly af ter, the heavy croes bars of the safe were blown apart, and torn asunder by another explosión. The safe was now open. The cash box was broken nto by using sinall steel wedges, tome of which were fouud in the ruhbish this morning. t'he noise of the explosión aroused mauy of our citizens, but they were ignorant of the occasion of it. It is said that one or two perons who slept uear the bank, saw the burglars n the street, after the ürst explosión, but hey were too terrilied to raise the alarm. All s confusión at the time of writing, and it is diflïcult to get particulars. The books, notes and papers of the bank are untouched. There is some prob&bility that a aerions windle is being perpetrated upon some of our ubstantial farmers about here. A man callng himself the agent of the " Granite Beaper and Mower " is traveling about inducing reponsible farmers to take the agenoy of his machine. If they asseut, they first sign a contract which they are told to keep for their ndemnification. He then produces a bank note, due in one year, which he asks them to ign for the seourity of the oompany, usually or the value of four machines. There is no connectioii between the note and the contract. Query : Farmers give their notes, where are he machines ? The above facto were given us by Messrs. Q. O. Eerriman and M. T. rout, who were approached in this way. Monday, the 9th inst., the Germans of Freedom " set the ball rolling" by one of the most enthusiastic meetings of the campaign. Charey Vogel'8 Hotel waa the place, and one o'ciock, Monday, the time. When your correspondent arnved on the ground the scène was ammated and enlivening. A profusión oí bunting was floating in the wind, Tilden Guarda in their showy uniforme galloping around, and gaily dressed ladies and stalwart farmers were eagerly iistemng to the remarks of Col. J. C. Burleigh, who was addressing them. Speakmg was continued during the eutire afteruoon( the iollowiug gentlemen addiessed the meeting : Chas. H. Manly, D. O. Church, C. B. Whitman, Wm. G. Doty, E. B. Norria, and A. T. Bruegel, the latter speaking n Uerinau. Freedom will be heard from by a good 250 majority in November. " Long may she wave.'' The nomination of E. B. Norria for Bepreentative in the Third District is considered good one. Mr. Norris is a ynung man, of ound Democratio principies, a successful lawyer, and emphatically a man of the people. lis nomination over the strong men who were his opponents shows the strong hold he has upun the confidenoe of the masses. We bepeak for Mr. Norris the entire Democratie vote of his strong Democratie district. Saturday, the 7th inst., a fine hickory was raiaed in front of the residence of M. T. Frout, four miles west of Manchester. There was a good attendance of farmers and the meeting was very succeasful. Wm. G Doty and E. B. Norris were the speakers.
