[From the Boston Herald, öct. 20.] The Supreme Court has sent down a rescript iii the case of the Citizene' Na tional Bank vs. Richmond. This was a auit to recover on a note for $500, made by Lucius W. Pond, of Worcester. It appears that in August, 1875, Pond applied to the defendant to indorse the note, being a note for $500, and the defendant indorsed it for Pond's accommodation. Pond thereupon, by the use of chemicals, renderfid invisible tht: worda " five hundred '' and the figures. "500," and wrote over them the words " two tliousand" and the figuren i "2,000." Pond then procured the i plaintiff bank, in the ordinary course of business, to discount the note, and the bank did so, being entirely innocent of the fraud. Before this note became due, Pond was arrested and imprisoued for a large number of similar ; tions. The plaintiff bauk, after the I maturity of the note, applied to the j writing, which set forth the amount for which the note was given, a solution of nutgalls, and thia application reveiled that the chango had been made from $500 to $2,000. The dofendant was' present and did not object when the nutgall was applied. The nte was demanded aud protested as a noto for I 8500 and $2,000, and the defendaut was j diüy notified as an indorser by two notises, one treating the note as $500 and another as a note for $2,000. The case was tried in the Superior Court for Worcester couuty, and the court ruled that the plaintiff could not recover, and the plaintiff alleged exceptions. The Snpreme Court has giveu judgment for the defendant, holding" that " the defendant never made the note for $2,000, which was the only one that the plaintiff accepted." lífuiarkiihlc Escape from Oeatli.
