The following paragraph, clipped from the news telegrains in Wednesday niorning's Detroit tost, shows just how South Carolina was carried for Chamberlnin : The Senate and House in joint session after the passage of a concurrent resolntion, met and cauvassed the vote lor 3ovemor and Lieutenaut Governor. The couuties of Edgotield, which gave Hampton over 3,200 majority, and Laureus, which gave hira over 1,100 majority, were previoualy thrown out, when the Democratie Senators retired from the hall. Wheu the returns were canvassed Lieut.-Governor Gleavet , colored, and Speaker Mackey declared Chambeilain elected by 3,0M votes. The State had been previously oarried for Hayes by doctoring the precinot returns, and the action of a Senate and " rump" house coinpleted the fraud upon the people of the State and nation. The same process gave the Hayes electora 946 majority in Florida and elected a Republican Governor and two Kepublican tnembers of Congress (who will have a good time in getting their seats). And in Louisiana, where a majority of over 5,000 was disclosed for the Tilden electors " on the face of the returns" (which would have been increased by full returns) was converted into a Hayes majority of 3,500 to 4,500 by throwing out parishes at the will of the returning board, acting under orders from Washington. And by such infamous proeeedings is the will of the people to be reversed. The robbery of the nation's treaBury is honorable in comparison. A DAY OR TWO ago the Detroit Post gave place to an article from one Sumuer Howard, United States District Attorney for Utah, detailing the prooess by which a priest named Kockwood stole the penitentiary of that Territory. What of it? The feat was nothing compared with that just performed by the canvassing and returning boards of Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina. Those boards have literally stolen the electoral votes of those States, aud insured, unless God and the people unma8k the thievea and thwart their purposes, the defeat of Tilden and the election of Hayos. Thoy didn't swoar false and procure a patent, like Rockwood, but threw out the votes of counties enough to do it. The second seesion of the Fortyfourth Congress, commenced on Monday, acting President Ferry prosiding in the Senate, and there being no Speaker the Clerk calling the House to orderHon. S. J. Randall, of Pennsylvania, was elected Speaker, and made a brief speech on taking the chair, which had the right ring. The Colorado meinber was refused his seat pending iuvestigation, also a South Carolina claimant of a seat. A resolution was adopted, in spito of Kepublican opposition, appointing oommittees to proceed to Florida, South Carolina, and Louisiana, to investígate the recent elections. The Senate ordered similar committees on Tuosday. The President's message was sent in on Tuesday and will bo found on the first page of this sheet. It IS the rule for Republican journals to cry " fraud," " ballot-box stuffing," and " repeating," wherever tbe Demooratio vote or the Democratie majority was largely increased in November as compared with former years. And yet the Lansing lie-publican has the audacity aud hardihood to boast of an increased vote of 3,670 in the Senatorial district comprising the counties of Clinton and Ingham, changing a Democratie majoriy of 382 to a Republican majority of 386. The Evening Newts need not quote Schuyler Colfax or any other former Speaker in defense of the claim by Speaker Randall of his right to vote. The Speaker is as much a member of the House as other members, has a right to vote on every proposition, and ought, by rule, to be required to vote on every roll cali. And then no Speaker Blaine could let an important measure be reported from his committee without objection, preside in the House and let it pass without opposition, and then afterward seek to sneak out of his share of the reaponaibüity. Gov. Grover, of Oregon, tooit the buil by the horns, refused to oertify to the eleotion of the ineligible Republican electoral candidate, aad gave a oertificate of election to the Democrit having the highest vote. The Democratio eleotor, the two Republicana rcfusiug to meet with him or leoognize him as guch, ñltud the vacancies, as the statute of the State presoribed, and tho eleotoral vote of the State was cast : two for Hayos and WueHler and one for Tilden and Houdricks. The two Republioan elootors also met, filled the vacancy, and cast a full vote for Haym and Wheeler. And nüw, if the (omnipotent) presiding otücer of the Sonate oan not go behind the returns of the fradulent electoral colleges of Florida, Louis iana, and South Carolina, because the election of their members inay be certified to by the Governors of thoso Staten, and Sonate and House must Rit in his presence with folded arms, see thoge fraudulent votes countod without objection, and the nation defrauded of a legally elected President, how will he get around or behind the certificate of the Governor of Oregon, under the broad seal of that State ? We may be told that the people of Oregon meant to vote for Hayes and Wheeler, and that the courso of Gov. Grover, if approved, defeats their will. And so the people of Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina meant to vote for Tilden and Hendricks - and DiD vote for Tilden and lltxDUKKs, which multes theni the legal and constitutional choice of the whole country for President 'andjVicePresident. And the Democraoy have a right.to exhaust all legal and constitutional meaos, bo they ever so technical and unprecedented, to insure the choice of the people being respected. The Electoral Colleges of the several States met on Wednesday, and severally cast their votes for President and Vice-President. Two sets of electors met in Florida, Louisiana, Oregon, and South Carolina, and two returns from each of these States will be sent forward to the acting President of the Senate. With these exceptions the several States voted as indicated by results of tbe November election. We forgot, - one Democrat in Vermont claimed to be an elector and voted " all alone, by himself." The South Carolina Senate, with the aid of the " rutnp " House, declared Chainberlain elected Governor, on Tuesday. The Suprenie Court bas recognized the Democratie House, which now bas 63 regularly certified members, as the legal body, and has issued an order to the Secretary of State to deliver the election returns to its Speaker. Hampton will contest, and a precedent has already been established in Wisconsin, the Supreme Court of which State ousted Gov. Barstow, Democrat, and installed Gov. Bashford, Republican. The farce, long drawn out, terniinated in Florida and Louisiana on Tueaday, - the canvassing board of the one State and tho returning board of the other throwing out precincts and counties and parishes enough to givo the States to Hayes and Wheeler. We shall see what we shall see. The Brooklyn (N. Y.) Theater was burned on Wednesday evening, with a loss of 350 lives. The scène was terrible beyond deacription. It is a city of mourniug.
