The Philadelphia Ledger says: "Over a million of dollars in counterfeit cnrrency hos been destroyed in Washington, and the plates on whieli it was oxecuted melted down. We have not the statistics showing what proportion was fractional. No doubt, however, a greater part of it was paper representing less thán a dollar. The industry thus exhibited in fraud is thus shown to be so large as to indieate the prostitution to mischievous purposes of the labor and ingenuity of a very great nrnnber of persons. Already, in the counterfeiting of ooin, the rogues are at work, though it is safe to say that the same labor applied to honest purposes would be more remuneraÜTe."
