Editob Abous : As there seema to be some inisunderstanding of my proposition to be one of fifty to give $25,000 to secure the coinpletion of the Toledo, Aun Arbor and Northern Bailroad, and a fear that it would shut out smaller subscriptions and endanger the success of the project, I will now say that I will sub" acribe $500 and pay it when the road shall be put in operation, without regard to thu suma othera may subscribe. The $25,000, or such other sum as the citizens subscribing and the contractiug capitalista may agree upon, may be made up ia subacriptions of $1,000, $500, $100, or $50 each, more or leas. I hope that this w ill convince all parties that I mean business. Tours, Joe. T. Jacobs. P. S. Fred. Schmid promises $500, and Anton Eiaele, H. Hutzel, Chris. Walker, John Schumacher, and J. Heinzman & Scn, each $100, Mb. Editob: Iu your last issue I noticed a propositiou of Joe T. Jacobs to pay five hundred dollars, in a company of tifty individuals to the Toledo, Aun Albor & Northern Railroad, when the same is actually running from Toledo to thia city. Thia is, apparently, % very generous and, perhapa, a very aafe proposition. ily idea of its importance to the city of Ann Arbor and surrounding country is sucli that I will be one ot fifty, or any less number, to give the aboye sum whenever the road is in operation as above described. The Lansing Repubhcan has a column " For Lawmakera Only " from which we quote : Trnthful James, the ladiea' favorite, the gallant young granger who represents the 4th district iu the Senate, has just played a real mean trick on his comrades in the Legislaturo by getting hold of all their copies of the Robbins' cultivator circular and aending them to his constituents. No aacrifice oi the feelings aud iuterests of other members would ever bring a tear to his eye. And can this item refer to the same Senator: Representativas are hereby warned against letting their pretty little girla come to the State House. One of them was picked up by a Stnatorjwho has a taate for kisses, and a few of us know who the senator waa. And report says it wat a Washtenaw member who waa hit in this wise : When the Legislatura flrst organized, a Democratie member proposed to his next neighbor, a wealthy Republicuu, that the latter should furnish furnia duriug the seasion, while he fiirnaelï would supply brains for the fii m. Tha gentleman of means at once consented, and iu currymg out his share of the agreement, laid down a five-cent piec and demanded the changa.
