Accordingly, stepping behind the couuter, ha disposed of a whole how-case of candies to a gentleman of color with a neatness and dispatch which beautifuly illustrated the versatility of his talents. He sold the whole of the candy for five dolars. Uonscious of having performed a magnanimous act, and with a smile of satisfaction upon his countenance, he stepped forth from lehind the counter, feeliug that he had accomplished enough for oue day. But, aias ! for the brieiness of worldly glory ! Upon, rather boaetingly, informing a gentleman who waa more experienced in morcantile pursuits than himself of the great bargain which he lad made, he was someiohat dismayed to learn that he had sold for five dollars what was wnrth at the least calculation three times that amount at wholesale price. It is unnecessary to draw the moral of this melancholy tale.
