This is what the Methodist - a New York journal of prominence, representing tho Methodist independente - says about the seim-political resolutions recently introduced into the New England Conference : By a singular mistake, some resolutions adapted to a political meeting were presented in the New England Conference last week. üther more singular rnistttkos were, that the resolutions were applauded, and then referred to a committeo. Our surprise growe out of a nuinber of unmethodistic features in these resolutions. In the first place, tliey are passionate, and diiected against persons in no way subject to the jurisdiction of the New England Conference. In the seeond place, none of the things affirmed are certainly true, and are probably false. It is certainly not true, for example, that Oen. Wade Hampton ought long since to have been hung nntil he has been oonvicted of a capital offence. If the conference kad said that this gentleman ought to have been tried, they would have oxpressed an intelligent opinión twelve years too late. We suggest, finally, tbat the author of these intomperate words shonld study Wendell Philips less and the Lord Jesus Chris more. We are glad to loarn that the conforence passed sensible resolution three days later.
