In 1844 slie became nttached to au Austxian officer, but her father, i violent hater of the Anstriana, who, at that time, were in possession of that part of Italy where he resided, refused liia consent to a marriage. The girl stated that she would then marry without liis pcrmisBÏon. At lier father's death, her sister, whose hatred toward the Austrians was equally great, continucd the impiïsonment. The unfortunate woman, on her liberation, had a complexión of doatli-like pallor, eaused by the darkness in which she had long lived, and her voice had departed, through constant cries during the early part of her sequestration for help.
