To thb Editor of the Argus: I have aeeu led to believe that a wrong inipression is attempted to be invposed on this coinmunity by personal enemies rather thau by anything [ said in ïuy remarks boforo the Red Ribbon Etofonn Clul) on Sunday ast The object of my remarks, and the only obect I had iu viow, was to impress upon the club and others ;he importance oí so ïmmagiug the club that all classes might give ït thoir üifluence without eubjecting themselvea to the peculiar "Viows uf any one class, and also to eudeavor to mpress upon thn membors the importance of oncentrating all their force aud influeuce upon drinking men and gather them into the club rather thau men who do not stand in the same need of reform. I said that I considered t a inuch greater victory to get one drinking niui into the club thau a half-dozen clergyiien, 1 i til I thiuk so. I also claimed that in inost ail cnses men were pereonally to blame tor drunkenuees, and that the fault should not t laid upon our parents or any one elae. I believe in personal responsibility largeiy and lence could not say otherwise. As to having any feeling oí opposition to the good work of ,he club, my feelmg and acts are all to the coutrary, as the president oí the club "wül cerity from the mauy conveisations I have had rith him. I do not like badges myself, but I uever was guilty of trying to persuade others uot to wear them ; on the contrary I Jiava agreed in three different cases to make the families of certain individuals handgonie presnts if they -vrould put on the badge, siyu the ledge, and live up to their obligations. In aort, notwithstanding any misrepresentations hat any isolated member of the club may make in regard to my views, I here state that believe that graat good has been done by the leform Club, aud my piayer is that much more may be done.
