This was once quoted in the hearing of a celebrated wit, who replied : " Dut let me see the dress man has worn and I will teil you hi h8tory." We leave it to othors to ar gue yro and ron as to which of thei gave utterance to the more philosophi cal reflection. But wo frankly confes that the weight of jrobability eenis t U8 to rest with the latter proposition Nothing external soems to be more in iliciitivn of character than the dres We do not lay this down as a rule from which thero can be no doviation, bu common sense will support us in saying that clothing is a most important element in dotermining both individual and national character. Clothing ranks next to food in importance. It cannot be absent without involving barbarism, partial or entire. The need of it was the first thing perceived by our first parents when they had attained by questionable means tbe knowledge of good and evil. lf we trace the developments through which the clothing of mankind has passed since theu, we are torced to the conclusión that the manufacture of clothing ranks next in vital importance to agriculture, which was given priority by the command to dress and till the ground. And as an element and iudication of civilization it is of even higher vulue, the savage in his nakedness, the ancient Druid offering human sacriflees of bodies clothed like his own - in paint. The unclothed condition of the heathen of to-day are instances which demónstrate the proposition that clothing and civilization are inseparable. You must all wear clothing, and w are gonerous enough to wish you ma; all wear good fitting and well mad goods. We are endeavoring to do ou share of business; we believe we are entitled to it, and have only to convine you of the fact to secure it. If you ask why, we answer : Because our stock is large, carefully sulected, and wel made ; because our prices are as low a can be found anywhere in the State We have taken extra pains this sprinj in making a large and fine selection o Boys' School Suits, also in suits witl knee pants for boys from 3 to 8 year old. A few more remarks and we wil bring this to a close. My Merchan Tailoring Department is complete.
