A correspondent writes to tbc New York Hcrald : "In connection with your graphieand interestiug account of Queen Victoria' reception of Gen. Grant fcnis rennk occurs : 'No such honois, nor anything approacbing tuem, bave ever before been paid to an American eitizen. ' A similar distinguished attentïon -was conferred upon Commander Henry I. Hartstene, United States navy, about the year 1854 oi" 1855. He was sent ly our Government to return to England one of ber vesaels wbieh had been abandoned in the Arctic sea and broiight to tbis country and refitted. On this occasion Commander Hartstene received and entertaiced fho (ue(H upon the vessel, personally escorting her Majesty tbrough au inspection of it. He afterwards dined with the Qncen and Prince Albert, surrounded by their children. He spent the night at the palaee, bnt, witb characteristic modesty and aversión to notice, be obtained permission to leave privately lief ore breakfast the next morning. This reception was somewbat less stately than that of Gen. Grant, Vrat to balance, this had in it even more of the elements of personal interecurse with the sovereign.
