Kentucky will hold tlie first State election on August 6. A Governor and other State officers and a Legislature will be elected. The maia interest centers in the election of Legislators, who will ohoose a suceessor to Senator McDreery, whose term expires in 1879. Of course a Democrat will be elected, and he main issue is whether McCreery will succeed himself. Next follows Vermont, where the people will vote for State oficerson the th of September. On the LOt-h of the same month Mame will elect itate. officers and a Legislature. Sept. 5, California will eleet a Governor and Legislatnre. The present Governor, [rwiu, Democrat, wns elected by a ímjority of 435 over botli the Republican and Independent parties. ïlie Legisla;ure to be elected will select a sncceBSor to Senator Sargcnt, whose term expires in 1879. On the seoend Tuesday in October elections occurr in Ohio and Iowa. In both States Governors nud Legislutures are to be chosen. The Legislatura elected in the former will also select Stanley Matthews' succesor in the United States Senate, altho'igh Matthews' term, like that of Sargeut, does not expire until 1879. Yonng that vacated by the President. Senator Kirkwood left the exeeutivejofflee of Iowa last Marcli, on being sworn into the United Str.tes Seuate. So also with the Governor of Texas, who is now in the Senate.
