On looking out of the window he saw that a Jiorse was being draggei along by the engine; its hiudquarters were on the ground, the hind legs 01 either side of the i'rout left wheel, anc the rest of the body wns held up by tlu engine, and being thrust forward in some ítránge way. The. train was gradually bronglit to a stamfctill, and upon going to the engine hc l'onud the body of t large, powernü black cart horse with the left butler of the engine driven right [irtt the body, and holding it up ipparentl; al the juucture of the lower rib of thi spine. In this attitude the body hai been carried by the eugine for about a quaxter of a mile. It seems that a man was passing over a level field crossing with a wagon and two horses, when sud denly round a sharp and closelv aljacen curve the oxpress train sweptuponthem; he escaped, but the left buffer of the engine struek the sliaft horse, impalee it, and carriod itbodilyoft'iu the mannei desoribed - the right buffer ïaught tüe other horse on the flank, killed it in stantly, and threw it off tlie line; the corner of the wagon came in contact with the lirst carriagc of the train, broke one of ite panels, and was huiled off the lino It was the opinión of the eugiue-drivei that f the horse, being hit so full by the engiue, had not been impaled and car ried forward in the way described, or i it had dropped from the buffer on to tht line before the train had stoppecL, the engine would in all probability have been thrown ott' the track.
