The great strike hit the M. C. H. H. Wednesday evening at Jackson, whan, despite the explanations of Messrs. Joy and Ledyard, and the oxpresaod satisfactiou of a large meeting of employés, a strike was ordered by engineers and firemen, with a blockade at that point of all trams leaving either terminus after 10 p. m. Yesterday the 6:38 a. m. train went east, but no train has since come from the west. The mail train (so-called) weut west at 8:40 a. m„ but was stopped at Jackson. The 10:50 a. m. train west, with through and way mails and about 125 passengere, came in an hour late and was switched on to the sidetrack by telegi aphio order, the officials not caring to pile up any more traius at Jackson. No Ireight traius passed here yesterday. The moruiug papera reportad eTerything quiet at Detroit, and we hear of no open outbreak at Jucksou. It is understood to be the policy of the management to make no physical fight with the strlkers, but to Btop all trains interfered with, and all business, leaving the State authorities to deal with the strikers. - All business haa been suspended on the Canada Southern Bailroad. The Ureat Western has compromised with its men, and trains are running regularly. The outlook in New York and Pennsylvania was better yesterday, while the news from Chicago and the West was ominous of serious results. LATEST. Strikers willing mail cars should run, but Asst. Supt. Brown will not run mail cars unlesa passenger cara could be attached. This the strikers refuse. They are in cons ultation with the railroad and military authorities, and it is quite possible an attempt will be mude to torce the departure of passenger traius before many hours. The Mayor has ordered the sale of intoxicating liquors stopped, and is getting the citizens in readiness to quell any and all disturbances. Mail aud Day Express east are side-tracked at Marshall. Qov. Croswell is at Lansing, has control of one wire, and is in direct communication with the troops at Jacksou. He has issued a proclamation to the people of the State, calling upon them to aid in keeping the peace and in quelling any disturbances, and cominanding all rioters to disperse. CHICAGO. At 11.40 a. in. the artillery left their quarters for the scène of conflict which was raging on Halsted and Sixth streets, and a few minutes after their arrival the booming of cannon shosved that the regulars had opened on the mob. A correspondent at the scène confirma this and says that the slaughter will be terrible. Beporta very conflicting and unsatisfactory, but it is kuown that quite a number of lives were lost and a large number wounded.one report says 20 killed and 150 wounded.
