There are only 450 square miles of i anthxacite coal in tho whole United; States. The Reading Company owns no less tban one-third of the whole. Of bituminous coal land there are now in America 200,000 square miles, and 8,000 qu;uv miles in Great Britaiu. A yodng lady of Bochester has a pet dog answeringto the name of " Nigger." The other day it chased a cow which was passing in the street, and its owner called the dog back, shouting ' ' Nigger, Nigger, Nigger." To her surprise a stone came flying near her head a moment or two afterward, and on loi - ttp'she saw that it had boen thrown ! the man who was driving the cow, and who was almoet wild with ruge. He was a colored man, and he Avas so angxy that he chased hermtoiüla heuse, and was not appeased until her brother oïplained that it was tho dog she was calling.
