The heaviest rain-storm ever witnessed in that vicinity passcd over Monroe on the evening of the Sist uit., doing muoh damage. Two-thirda of the oity was completely flooded. A portion of the Lake Shore traok noar the junotion was waBhed away, several buildings were struok by lightning, and considerable damage was done in general. The Chicago and Michigan Lake Shore shops have been removed from St. Josoph, and are now under the course ot' construction at Muskegon. William Austis, of Independence, Oakland County, was instantly killed on the lat inst. by a huge boulder falling upon liim while he was digging a hole in which to bury the stone. Eighty-seven prisoners have boon tranBferred from the State Prison at Jackson to the new State House of Correction at Ionia. The number in prison is now 7C6, a total which is loss than at any time since November, 1875. At Grand Eapids on the ovening of the 24th 300 workingraen formed and marched through the principal streets. The procession went to the City Park, where speeches were made in English and Germán, favoring the adoption of a líational Woikingmen's Association platform, and tho eight-hour system.
