The annual meeting of the Washtenaw County Pioneers' Society was held at the Court House in this city on Wednesday, with a fair attendance of veterans, both ladies and gentlemen. Sessions were held both in the forenoon and afternoon, and during recess the pioneers dined together at the Gregory House. The papers read during the day were : " The Pioneers," a poem by Mrs. N. H. Pierce; a biographical sketch by Wm. M. Gregory, of Charles H. Wallace, whose re:ent death is recorded in another column ; a listorical sketch of Saline, written by a Mr. hittenden, of Ontario County, N. Y., and _1 i r . f i i . read by Mr. Gregory ; and a letter to Mr Gregory from Mr. Wright, of Minnesota, describing the origin of the word " Washtenaw," and holding it to be Indian for Washington. Mrs. Phebe Hunt, Mrs. M. E. Foster, and Mrs. N. H. Pierce were requested to prepare papers to be read at a future meeting giving their recollections of their early life in the county. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows : President - Alexander D. Crane, Dexter. Secretary - Jeremiah D. Williams, Ann Arbor. Corresponding Secretary - Merchant H. Goodrich, Ann Arbor. Treasurer - Dor Kellogg, Ann Arbor. Historian - J. Q. A. Sessions, Ann Arbor. Executive Committee - J. Q. A. Sessions, Ann Arbor; J. H. Fellovrs, Sharon; Ezra D Lay, Ypsilanti ; Wm. M. Gregory, Saline .' N. A. Phelps, Scio. A Vice President for each township. The next regular meeting will be held at Saline, on Wednesday, December 5. The Schools. - Up to yesterday noon the following was the . enrollment in the High and Grammar Schools of this city : High School : in Prof. PattengilPs room 85 ; in Prof. Chute's room, 85 ; in Miss Chit! tenden's room, 72 ; in Miss Regal's room, 74. Total, 316. The number of new nonresident scholars is 50 per cent. in excess of the corresponding date of last year. Grammar School ; in Miss Conover's room, 67 ; in Miss Pond's room, 56 ; in Miss Kerr's room, 58; in Miss Morey's room, 61. Total, 242. - On Thursday of last week Justice Beahan disposed of two yagranta : ticketing Patriek Collins to the House of Correction for sixty days, and conBigning Ellen Collius to the county jail for thirty days.
