i he Superintendent of Public Iustruction has appointod a Teachers' Instituto for Washtenaw County, to be held at Saline, commencing at 2 p. m., Mouday, Oct. 1, 1877, and closing Friday eveuing of the sanie week. All teachers in the county, aud those iuteudng to teach during tlie coming year, should, it possible, be present. The exercises will consist of lectures on school management, discipline, and methods of instruction, illustrated and euforced by cla3S drills in the common English branches by competent instructora. A lecture of a more popular character will be delivered each eveuing. To these exercises, botli day and evening, the public are respectfully iuvited. The citizeus of Saline with commendable hospitality, promise free entertainment to all teachers in regular attendance at the Institute. Teachers should bnug text-books and note books. This is one of the first of the series under the new Institute law ; it will be conducted by Prof. Zelotes Truesdel, of Aun Arbor, assisted by Prof. Joseph. Estabrook, of the Normal ; and every effort will be made to render it of practical valuo to teuchers. It is hoped teachers will appreciate and avail themselves of these opportunities for improvement. Tarbell will dehver a lecture on " The Public Schools and the Public;" on Weduesday evening Prof. Olney will lecture on "The Characteristics of the True Teacher ;" on Thursday evening Prof. Estabrook will give a lecture.
