E. H. Bower will talk temperance to the Grass Lake Reform Club uext Sunday. - At Ypsilanti au effort is being made by tho Keform Club and other temperance people to build a hall to be placed nnder control of th club. - The Opera House meeting Sunday aiternoon was a small oue, and the speaker, au honest old quaker, had n't just the qualirbaÍ10113 for the lecture platform. - At Dexter on Wcduesday there was a large gatheriug of Rc-ionu Clubs. Speaking iu the afternoon, a freo dinner to the niasses', and a jolly dance in tlie evening. Threo bands discoursed good music. - The meeting at Delhi Mills on Suuday evening last was a success in every respect ; attemlanco large, music inspiring, order good, and one of Judge Cheever's best speeches. Tho Delhi Club is a live one. - Next Sundsiy atternoou meeting of the [teform Club, at the Opera House, iviil be adlressed by Hou. Ueorgo C. Bates, of Detroit; Mr. Bate? long years ago was one of the most iïoIï ticiil cumpaiguers of this State, and bas not yat lost his power. The Opera House should be ftllod to its utmost capacity. - The Detroit Reform Club lias adopted and put fortli the following address wuich tells its own story, and requested tho State press to publish ; " To Keform Clubs : " Mr. M. Almy Aldrich is uot recommended by tliis club, pot is he authonzed to speak or nuiko arrangemeuta for speaking, under the auspices of the Detroit Reform Club. We earnestly recommend that no club in this State pay any porson belonging to this club more than his actual expenses, wheu speaking by invitation, and tliat not even expenses be allowed when speakers come without invitation." Bui'.OLAES at Work.- During Suuday uiglit last several houses iu the Fourtli ward of tliis city were entercd ly burglars. At the reaideuce of E. J. Knowlten, oh Stato street, two gold watchcs, belougmg to Mr. and Mra. Laim - son-in-Iaw and daughter of Mr. K. - and $7 iinnoiiey belongmg to Mr. Lane were taken. Tho burglars entered by uulocking a door, were not haart), and their visit was not discovurcd uutil raorning. The residence of Mrs. Swift, also on State street, at whioh a number of studeuts have rooms, wus also eutered, aud one of the occupants, a sophomore named Meredith, relieved oí a silver watcli and ?35 in niüiicy. ilorodith was wakened by hearing the rattling of silver leit iu his poockets, - then undergoing search- and slipping out of bed ho got his revolver and commenced iiiing, uuloading live barrels. The burglar returued two shots and saccessfully made his escape. Meredith says that tho iutruder íell and he was conüdent that he hit him, but aa uo blood was discovered it is probable thal he simply tripped or dodgcd a shot. A visit was also made to the residenco of the MissesLadd east of State street, but no plunder secured. As an exit was made from the wiudow, the unsuccessful burglar was heard to whisper iu disgust to his outsido partner : '■ Say, Torn, I thought you said thcre were fellows here. There aro nobody but girls." Whether hia conscience would n't let him steal from " girls,' or whether ho waa frighteuei off bofore flnding anything to steal we have not been advised. - Auother: Early on Weduesday eveniug some oue went tlirough the house of James Toms, of Sion Nursery, and report says secured $8ü belongiug to Mr. Toms and $17 belonging to a hired man. - We are advised that wheu the burglars were in the housa of the Hisses Ladd (as recorded above) one of tho yoang ladies woke, saw the intruder, screaraed, and was kiudly told, "keep atill, I ain't going to hurt you." Auother proof of his gallantry. While in the residence of Mrs. Swift, Miss Swift heard a noise, got up and went to her mother'a room passing and seeing the burglar, but supposing him to be a student roomer. The doek and warehouse of Edwarc Molitar, at Eogers City, were washed away duringthe storm last week, entailing a heavy loss on the owner.
