Last Munduy the people ot Manchester were surprlsed by the uimouncemeut that Godfrey Stout or (üotttned Stouz), a farmer living a couple of miles soutli of town, had ended Ina lite by suicide. Mr. Stout was also a shoemaker, and kept his bunch i his barn. Havingjust ineuded a pair of boots he went to the barn and with his shoo knife cut the arteries of both of his wrists. ïsTct satisfied with thi?, he next cut his throat. Although his ht'ad was nearly half severed from hi3 body he lived about two hours, not haviug cut the jugular Tein. A doctor was sent for and arrived just in time to see him breathe his last. Mr. S. attempted once before to end his Ufe by hanging, and was sent to the Asylum at Kalaniazoo. Insanity is hereditary in the tamily, his brother baring nlso committed suicide. Work is progressing rapidly on the new wagon shop being erected by the new ftrm of Neebling & Neialoy, the massns laying brick, notwithstandinS thé storniy weather of the past few days. 8AMM5 SLIPS. - Wm. Henry Kelsey, of York, Io5t two cows last week, from turning them upon fresh clover pasture. - The Eed Ribbon Club intend giving a concert and exhibition of oíd fashioneil style in twoor tliree weeks. - A horse was stolen fi-om the Held ot John Burg, of York, 1 l-'J miles south of Saline, on the uight of Friday, Nov. 2, but was not missed until Sumlay morning, when on making ino,uiry, Mr. Burg íound a man who saw a person takiug a horse out of the field just at dusk on the day nained, but did not supposs there was anything out of the way. - While üeorgc W. Hall, station agent at Saline depot, was gone to dinuer on Thursday, Nov. 1, some porson or persons enterod the station house, broko open au express package belonging to a Mr. Feldkamp, of Bridgewater, contaiuiug three watches and some other jewelry intended for presenta to lus tamily, and took one watch, consideratoly Ieaviug the rest. There havo been sevcral other thefts trom the building latoly. No clua to the thievcs as yet.
