The city ehute np its shop for the day, The oldeat and youugest play or pray ; The chxirchee are open in the ancient way, For preachers to Htter whatevor they may, With few to listen to what they eay, While all the chaises and carriages Are dashing around with thtir nierry loadB Of babies dressed in their prettiest modep, To dump at the doors of kindred abodes - Or fillcd with those ytill happier nodee "Who rush to try that best of codea Which binds np ttp in marriages. The horse in the stall, the dog at the door, Are loved and caressed aud kisaed once more, And smiles are joyonsly beaming, And the pullets, destiued for thcni to die, Look on the Bcene wiili a chcerful eye.
