This engineer is i named Curtís Elliot. and his home is iu this city. During hismany years of cxposure he has contracted n severo rheumatic affection, which rarely troubles him white on the road, but when it does the attacks are snddeu and alarniiug. Last night iie was making the run on tlie throngh western train irom Jlartinsburg, W. Va., to Baltimore. When a little more than ha]f-way over the distanee he was attacted witii rheumatism, and within half an hour liis arms and legs wc re useless. Upto the very last moment of coramanding his muecles he kept his handupon t!u lever, aud when at last he was powerless he directed the öreman in his movements. His conclition wns Bacil that he should have left the cab and sought relief at the iirst 8toppiug-place, but hc would not. He said ha would stfiy at his post und bring the engine into Baltimore if he died in the efïbrt. The niany passengers in tho train werp, of conrse, unaware that the min who controllcd thoir safety was sitting in the cab, unable to stirhand or foot.
